Quite possibly the best album to feature the talents of Chico Hamilton and Eric Dolphy – a set recorded at a time when Dolphy was an up-and-coming player on the west coast scene! Although Chico Hamilton had recorded with unusual reed players before, Dolphy brings a depth of soul and spirit LP, Vinyl record albumBrand: Pacific Jazz (Label).

This album is evidence of his unconventional approach to music - while other trios of the era featured piano, drums and bass, Chico chose guitar, drums and bass. This album features two great jazz guitarists, the lesser known Howard Roberts is on the first eight tracks and icon Jim Hall is on the last four. Chico's drums and George Duvivier's bass are on every track/5(3).

Chico Hamilton 's earliest bands in a trio setting featured two fine rising stars of jazz guitar in Howard Roberts and Jim Hall. With the always exceptional George Duvivier playing bass throughout, these three-piece bands laid a foundation for many of Hamilton 's more famous groups in the '60s that sported sidemen Larry Coryell and Gabor Szabo.
